CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Metra Electric trains were running with major delays Thursday morning after they were halted first for wire problems and then for a fire alarm at Millennium Station.
The station’s sprinkler system and fire alarm were activated and halted train movement about 9:35 a.m. in and out of the station, a Metra spokesperson said.
Trains were moving again with major delays, Metra said at about 10:10 a.m. in a service alert.
There was no confirmation of an actual fire, according to Metra and Chicago Fire Department spokespeople.
All train movement in and out of the downtown station was initially halted at about 8:20 a.m. due to a “wire problem,” Metra said in a service alert.
Tracks were reopened within a half hour and trains were moving again with delays, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.
Miller could not elaborate on the cause of the wire issue.
