CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Service was disrupted on Metra's Milwaukee District West and North Central Service lines after a train hit a pedestrian Monday in west suburban Elmwood Park.

An equipment train struck the pedestrian about 7:30 a.m. near the station at 7600 W. Grand Ave. in Elmwood Park, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

Commuters on the @metraNCS and @metraMDW can expect heavy delays today. Both lines are stopped after this incident near Elmwood Park. The UP West or UP Northwest lines are better options from the west suburbs for now. @WBBMNewsradio https://t.co/CgPycgyQKQ

Trains remain halted in both directions near the scene of the crash, affecting service on both the Milwaukee District West line, which stops at the station, and the North Central Service line, which operates on the same tracks in the area, Miller said.

Extensive delays are being reported on both lines, according to Metra.

Elmwood Park police did not provide additional details about the person who was hit.
