— Anthony Guglielmi (@AJGuglielmi) February 6, 2020According to police, there was an argument on the westbound Blue Line train, and police said right before the doors opened, a man shot another man and took his backpack.
"Our victim was shot once in the back. He was transported to an area hospital in serious, but stable condition," said Chicago Police Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
Chicago Police Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the shooting happened at about 10:45 a.m. at the station in the 400 block of South Halsted Street. Paramedics took the man, reported to be in his 30s, to Stroger Hospital, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt.
"We're making very good progress on the case. The CTA transit network is saturated in high-definition crime cameras. So if you want to commit a crime on the CTA, you're going to get caught, because we're going to have high-definition videos of you," Guglielmi said
Police said they don't believe this was a random act - that this particular victim was targeted.
The shooting was the second incident of serious violence on CTA property in as many days.
A musician was stabbed on the platform of the Jackson Red Line station at about 1:35 p.m. Tuesday. The victim, a 26-year-old man, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition and a woman was taken into police custody shortly after the stabbing.
