CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A teenager was shot after she attempted to rob a dog from a woman she met without paying.
On Nov. 29, the 14-year-old girl met with 21-year-old Araceli Diaz in Little Village at about 5:45 p.m. in the 2300 block of South Drake Avenue after arranging to purchase a dog from her, according to Chicago Police Officer Jose Jara.
During the meet-up, the 14-year-old struck Diaz on the head with a pellet gun in an effort to take the dog without paying for it, Jara said.
In response, police said Diaz pulled out a handgun and opened fire, striking the girl in the chest. She was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.
She was taken into custody an hour later in the 1400 block of S. 57th in Cicero and was charged with one felony account of aggrevated and unauthorized use of a weapon. Bond was set at $5,000 on Dec. 1.
Jara said Diaz has a valid FOID, but no conceal and carry license.
The 14-year-old offender was arrested Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. at Stroger Hospital and was charged with one felony count of attempted robbery and armed with a firearm. She is due in juvinile court Dec. 9.
