Two Mayoral Candidates Outline Ethics Reforms For City Government

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two candidates for mayor introduced their own plans for cleaning up city government.  

There was a traffic jam on the second floor of Chicago's City Hall, because of multiple news conferences about ethics reform.

While the City Council Progressive Caucus outlined their ethics reform plans, mayoral candidates Willie Wilson and Paul Vallas waited to deliver their proposals to change the Council in the wake of the indictment of Alderman Ed Burke.

Willie Wilson, a self-made millionaire, said the entire City Council should resign due to their ties to Burke, and because he said they are beholden to their donors.

But that's not all.

"The other thing is, is that there should be term limits. There should be term limits on this whole situation," Wilson said. 

He wants a Citizen Commission to have a say who can chair City Council committees. 

Paul Vallas, holding a broom as a prop, called on several candidates to drop out of the race over their ties to Ald. Burke.

"Alderman Burke helped build the careers are Susana Mendoza and Gery Chico, who along with Toni Preckwinkle, solicited and coveted Burke's powerful support and money. They are apart of a corrupt political machine," Vallas said. 

Bill Daley has floated a proposal to reduce the size of the City Council from 50 members to 15.
