VIDEO: Kendall County High School Senior Documents Quarantine With Suspected COVID-19

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Kendall County high school senior spent eight days essentially living in a bubble in her home after a positive COVID-19 test and she documented her ordeal in a video.

Mattie Chapman works with seniors, and gets tested often.

"The one time it came back positive. I didn’t have symptoms. And I was quarantined to a room in my house," Chapman said.

She documented it all and made a video, mostly set to the Bee Gees, “Stayin’Alive.”

“It was an experience for sure," she said.

Her video shows her dad building her quarantine room, installing plastic sheeting; food being delivered through a flap.

“It was pretty cool how they did it,” she said.

There were movies and shows, remote learning, motivational speakers on DVD, Zoom chats, cookies and more cookies.

“They brought me lots of fun treats to cheer me up, but it was an experience for sure," Chapman said.

Chapman was asked if she was more nervous or her parents.

“Definitely my mom was horrified,” she said.  “And I was scared because I have asthma.

And she was concerned about the residents where she works.

But, she did get outside. Chapman did a lot of hanging out on the roof outside her window, watching her siblings in the yard.

“My one friend Megan talked to me for probably six hours one day on the grass, which was nice," she said.

Then came two negative tests.

Cue the inspiration music.

And an end to the quarantine.

Big relief, she said.

“It was super weird to be downstairs. I literally ran across my floor, because it was like an open space where I hadn’t had that much room in a week, so it was super nice," Chapman said.

There were hugs from the family.
