CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- What would you do if you found an old audio recording of your professional debut? Here's what legendary White Sox stadium organist Nancy Faust did.
Faust and her husband Joe found a audio reel in the basement of her suburban home while looking for items for an exhibit at the Grammy Museum in L.A on music and baseball. On the box was written "Nancy's first day at Sox Ball Park." Faust said it was recorded by her father back in April of 1970 at Comiskey Park; but given the age of the reel-to-reel and antiquated technology associated with it, Faust was unclear if there was anything on the reel or how she would be able to listen to it.
The reel was given to Brian LaVoy of Reel Pro Video in Batavia. He has made a career of restoring and preserving audio and video in all types of forms.
"For the first ten minutes, all I heard was a bunch of static noise," according to LaVoy.
But he listened on.
"It sounded great. It sounded like we were at the ballpark," Faust said. "I played 'This Guys in Love', 'What Do You Get When You Fall in Love.'"
She said it took her back in time.
"I'm really glad my dad preserved it," she said.
Her father is also heard on the recording.
"I know my father was very proud that I got that job and I don't think he would have imagined I would be sitting here today listening to it," Faust said.
