CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- At a small peaceful march in Wicker Park Saturday, neighbors met at a custom frame shop on North Avenue owned by Tommy and Helendora Samuels, who organized the march to spread the message of love, peace, equal rights and most importantly, non-violence.

"(We want to) show that there is a lot of love in Chicago, that there is peace here and that we have to be the ones that make it and bring it," said Tommy Samuels.

Helendora Samuels said that peace can be achieved with inter-neighborhood communication throughout Chicago as well as people willing to donate their time to mentor youth.

"(People need to be) willing to open their company so they can take one or two teenagers and give them an opportunity to teach their trades to them or even teach them how to manage money," said Helendora Samuels.

The short march, which began at North and Hermitage, was also co-organized by nonprofit Stepping Out In Faith/I AM Austin, and organizers from the group held a large banner with its name on it during the march down North Avenue. As people walked the street and blocked off traffic, cars going the opposite direction honked in solidarity and people sitting outside at cafes clapped.

"Love thy neighbor," the organizers chanted to the crowd, which repeated the phrase back to them.
