(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It's been 39 years since a Joliet Township girl disappeared from her front yard.
Over the past year, Will County Sheriff's police renewed efforts to search for the remains of Sarah Avon. She was 6 when she vanished while playing in front of her home on July 21, 1981.
Authorities originally named William R. Redden a person of interest; he has since died.
In May 2019, police searched Redden's former home and excavated the crawl space but found nothing. Searches at other properties also yielded nothing, police said.
The sheriff’s department has posted an age progression image of Sarah Avon, which depicts what she might look like today.
