CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago crews worked late Wednesday morning to clear a tree brought down by high winds in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood.
WBBM's Mike Krauser reports the large tree came down across the road at 67th and Marquette, between the lake and Jackson Park golf course, around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The tree missed cars, but blocked four lanes of traffic in both directions.
Streets and Sanitation crews came in with heavy tree-moving equipment and chainsaws, chopping up what they could and loading it up in the back of a truck.
The National Weather Service recorded wind gusts up to 44 miles per hour at the city's official weather reporting station. The area is under a high wind warning until 6 p.m.
