CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Authorities said a woman was shot and killed near 59th and Kedzie early this evening, and an ambulance on the scene was shot twice.
Officials said the woman was with two children inside the Metro PCS phone store at the intersection — and was standing at the counter when she was shot in the back of the head.
Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Larry Langford said an ambulance (number 78) happened to be at the scene — and the passenger side of that ambulance took some of the gunfire.
One source said there were two bullet holes in the ambulance. Police said the woman was not the target.
The woman, who was in her early 30s, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died, police said. No other injuries were reported.
Langford said an employee at the phone store was treated for lacerations after being hit by debris from the gunfire.
