CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 9-year-old boy who was reported missing Tuesday evening after he did not return from his Englewood neighborhood elementary school was located Wednesday morning.

WBBM Newsradio's Jim Gudas reports Wednesday morning that Michael Campbell was found safe.

The boy's father found the boy Wednesday morning walking down the street. He did not seem to be harmed. When asked what happened, Michael said he did not come home because he heard gunshots and went to a friend's house for safety. He said he went to play video games and fell asleep.

Michael was taken by ambulance to a hospital for an evaluation, but he appears to be okay.

Michael Campbell was last seen at 3 p.m. when classes ended at Harvard Elementary School, 7525 S. Harvard Ave., according to Chicago police. Michael's mother reported him missing that night at 8:30 p.m. and spoke to reporters, pleading for him to return.

"Baby, please, please, please come home," she said. He lives about a block away from school.

Police said Michael was found Wednesday morning but did not immediately provide further details.
