CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some CPS high school students will continue learning this summer as they pursue careers in medicine.
Westinghouse Principal Kerry Leuschel helps select students from her west side college prep school for the Northwestern Medicine Scholars program.
She said the change they go through is noticeable.
"They stand differently. They have an authority and a confidence that you don't necessarily see walking the halls of high school," she said.
Iridian Guzman is an alum of the program that she said taught her a lot of valuable lessons.
"As a first-generation college student I also definitely really understand what it was like to network or what kind of skills you need," she said.
The four-year program includes a summer intensive that gives students hands-on experiences at the hospital and prepares them for college.
The partnership between the schools began back in 2011 and marked another graduating class from the four-year program with a ceremony at Prentice Women's Hospital on Wednesday night.
