LAKE COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Several day campers and camp counselors were hurt Thursday when a dump truck crashed into three school buses in the north suburbs.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a traffic crash Thursday around 10:45 a.m. near Route 137 and River Road in unincorporated Libertyville involving three school buses carrying children and a dump-truck loaded with landscaping material.
A total of 17 people on the buses were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Everyone else was evaluated by paramedics on scene.
The three bus drivers and truck driver were uninjured.
Parents of the children were discouraged from coming to the scene. YMCA staff members worked with the busing company to transport all of the children and counselors back to camp.
No citations have been issued as of yet, however, are likely for the driver of the truck, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s office.
