
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 17-year-old boy was wounded by gunfire on the I-290 early Wednesday near the west suburbs, in the year’s first expressway shooting reported in Cook County.
At 1:10 a.m., the boy was shot in the hand and back of the head while driving on the outbound I-290 by Wolf Road in Hillside, according to Illinois State police. He drove himself to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.
A 20-year-old woman who was a passenger in his car was not hurt in the shooting, police said. Details on who shot the driver were not immediately available.
ISP and Hillside police were investigating the shooting.
