Brookfield Zoo Animals Celebrate Chicago Bears 100th Season

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago football is here, and humans are not the only ones celebrating the Bears 100th season!
Brookfield Zoo’s grizzly bears and ring-tailed lemurs celebrated the kickoff to the 100th football season and showed their support for their Chicago home team on Thursday, just in time for the Bears' season opener.
The zoo's two grizzlies, Axhi and Jim, were treated to something yummy - frozen ice treats in the shape of the number 100. According to the zoo, animal care staff dyed the numbers blue and orange and filled them with oranges and blueberries.
But just because Chicago is home of the bears, does not mean the zoo's grizzly bears were the only ones showing their team spirit.
The zoo's ring-tailed lemurs hosted their own football tailgate party.
At the zoo’s Hamill Family Play Zoo, staff created a football field, complete with yard lines, goal posts, fans in the stands, and a fly-over plane wishing the Chicago Bears congratulations on its 100th season.
The lemurs, named Dogwood, Moses, Ramses, and Butch, received treats of their own - a nutritional monkey biscuit in the shape of a football and topped with coconut flakes that made up the stitching. They also snacked on popcorn and vegetables.
And no tailgate party is complete without beer, right? Well, it is frowned upon for animals to drink alcohol, but the lemurs washed down their tasty treats with some apple juice, which kinda looks at beer, so they will blend right in with the crowds of people at Soldier Field!
The Chicago Bears take on the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7:20 p.m.
