Red Arrows' Flypast Delights Chicago Air And Water Show Watchers
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Red Arrows from the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force conducted its flypast through the city's skyscrapers at the 2019 Chicago Air and Water Show early Saturday, delighting spectators who braved the rain.
"All of the aerobatic maneuvers will be crowd front, or over the water, so it's nice and safe. But there are some rejoins that we'll have to do what we call crowd rear. But those are quite high, so I think generally they will be above the height of the buildings," Doug Smith of the RAF told WBBM in March.
The Red Arrows are the Royal Air Force's aerobatic team, and has been displaying its "Diamond Nine" shape and close formations since 1965. This year marks the team's 55th season, and so far it has flown 5,000 displays in 57 countries, according to the Red Arrows' website.
