'Star Trek' Fans Can See TV, Film Props In Detroit

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Scotty, beam us into the Motor City.
For the next four months, the Henry Ford Museum near Detroit will be hosting a traveling exhibit that features several props and costumes that appeared in various "Star Trek" television series and films. "Star Trek: Exploring New Worlds" celebrates the creativity and ideas behind Gene Roddenberry's trailblazing series, which began modestly in the late 1960s as a TV series starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.
Canceled after only three seasons, the show enjoyed incredible popularity in the mid-1970s through syndication before it was revived for threatrical films and subsequent incarnations.
Highlights of the exhibit include an original “tricorder” used in the first series; furry Tribbles from a popular episode about fast-breeding space critters; a transporter simulator in which visitors can make a video showing them being “beamed” to another world; and uniforms worn by characters from the popular “Next Generation” series that was led by Patrick Stewart.
For more information, go to the Henry Ford Museum website. The exhibit runs through Sept. 2.
