CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A driver was thrown from a car during a hit-and-run crash Tuesday on the Stony Island feeder ramp from the Bishop Ford Freeway on the South Side.
A Toyota sedan was slowing down because of a stop in traffic at 6:41 p.m. when it was rear-ended by a black car on the northbound I-94 feeder ramp to Stony Island Avenue near 95th Street, according to Illinois State Police.
The impact caused the Toyota’s driver, a 36-year-old woman, to be ejected from the car, state police said. It was not clear whether she was wearing a seatbelt.
The crash also knocked the Toyota off the road, over the sidewalk and through the barrier gate at a Shell gas station, where it hit a Ford SUV parked at a pump before coming to a stop, according to state police.
The Toyota’s driver was taken to a hospital in serious condition, state police said. The passenger in the Toyota, a 10-year-old girl, was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Two passengers who were inside the Ford at the gas pump were not injured.
The car that rear-ended the Toyota did not stop and drove away from the scene, state police said. An investigation is “open and ongoing.”
