RIVERDALE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Metra Electric train service was delayed after a truck crashed into a bridge Friday in south suburban Riverdale.

The truck hit a viaduct about 9 a.m. under the bridge carrying the Metra Electric tracks over 138th Street, a Metra spokesman said. A train was halted until inspectors could be sure the bridge was safe to cross, but the train was on the move again shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Train 114, which was scheduled to arrive at Millennium Station at 9:39 a.m., is about 40 to 45 minutes behind schedule, according to Metra service alerts.

Riverdale police did not immediately respond to a request for details about the crash.
