Anti-violence activists passed out flyers on Tuesday morning outside an elementary school in Chicago's Brainerd neighborhood where a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted last week.
Police said the assault happened a half block from the school grounds of Fort Dearborn Elementary School, at 91st and Throop.
The girl, according to police, was pulled into an alley by a boy of about the same age and he violated her with his hands.
His images were captured by a surveillance camera and have been circulating on-line.
His face is not visible but a black hoodie with white lettering is.
“Some parents look at their son or daughter and say, ‘that’s my baby, they could not have done nothing like that,’” said activist Tio Hardiman.
“The thing is, whoever did it, that person needs some help because we’ve got a young lady who is gonna be traumatized for the rest of her life, her innocence has been shattered.”
Hardiman and other members of Violence Interrupters were talking to parents outside the school.
“We got a knucklehead that assaulted a 13-year-old girl. I think every man in Chicago would be interested in making sure that person is brought to justice. You’re messing up a young girl’s life.”
The boy was described as having dreadlocks with orange tips.
He was carrying a clear backpack.
There’s a petition going around to create a Safe Passage program in the neighborhood, which would involve adults walking with children or standing on corners as the kids walk to and from school.
