VIDEO: San Francisco Black Lives Matter Protesters Block Bay Bridge Traffic, Paint Roadway

By , KCBS All News 106.9FM and 740AM

A group of Black Lives Matter protesters blocked traffic and painted the roadway on the upper deck of the Bay Bridge as part of a caravan protest late Sunday.

The group originally got out of their vehicles after the tunnel at Treasure Island just before 5 p.m., then moving up the roadway to about halfway over the San Francisco side of the span. Many dispersed after a brief standoff with officers, but their vehicles remain on the bridge.

Video showed officers in riot gear tackling some demonstrators in an effort to gain control over the group as vehicles sat in traffic beyond the toll plaza.

Traffic into San Francisco was getting through very slowly and officers in riot gear are currently on the bridge, along with several squad cars and vans.

An overhead shot from KPIX showed the group painted "#BLM" on the roadway in yellow paint.

KCBS Radio's Jeffrey Schaub was there and witnessed cars trying to get by traffic by driving on the right-hand shoulder.

While in traffic, many people have reportedly gotten out of their cars to take photos and selfies.
