Cubs fans are sharing their memories and paying respects to Hall-of-Famer Ryne Sandberg, who died Monday at the age of 65.

They’ve been coming to Wrigley Field to take pictures and leave flowers, hats or baseballs at the foot of the Sandberg statue in Gallagher Way.

Scott Pfeiffer is a Cubs fan, despite growing up in Cardinals territory, and says he plans to go through his old ticket stubs to remember Ryno games he saw in person.

He spoke of Ryno’s endless work ethic and how he led with action.

Radolfo Ramirez fondly remembers watching Ryno as a kid growing up in Evanston and describes #23 as electric.

Also visiting was the man who made the sculpture.

An emotional Lou Cella left one white rose at the base.

He says Ryno personally picked the defensive pose used in the artwork because that’s what fans talked to him about, how the second baseman was always at the ready.

JR McKinley was wearing a blue Sandberg jersey as he walked around Wrigleyville with his two sons, one who he gave the middle name of Ryne.

McKinley says they’ve been on a personal Ryno tour - visiting the south side on Sunday and Milwaukee on Monday for Cubs games before returning home to southern Indiana.

At Wrigleyville Sports, sales associate Alex says fans have been buying up Sandberg jerseys, t-shirts and whatever else they can get their hands on.
