The Cubs return to Wrigley Field this weekend to take on the Baltimore Orioles, and it's the first home series for the Cubs since Monday's death of Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg.
Crane Kenney, the Cubs President of Business Operations, appeared on WBBM's sister station 670 The Score during the Cubs For a Cure Radiothon saying it will be a weekend of memories and honor for the player affectionately known as "Ryno", saying "we started wearing a patch on our jersey...we'll have stencils on the field of his 23-number...as a tribute to Ryne on Saturday we're going to wear the blue jerseys...with no names on the back. Every player will wear number 23 and then we'll auction those jerseys off to raise money for cancer research as part of the Cubs For a Cure."
Kenney also said said Sandberg did much more than just help the Cubs win games.
"The upper deck used to be closed on the weekends. And now...we're full every day. And that happened because of (Sandberg) and the people around him...and so today this organization benefits from Ryne Sandberg. Forty years later we are benefiting from Ryne Sandberg being on this Earth and doing what he did and that will probably continue for generations."
