Indiana voters have elected a democrat to statewide office for the first time in nearly 15 years, sending Beau Bayh to the Secretary of State’s office.
“Hoosiers voted for change,” he said to applause as he celebrated the victory in Indianapolis. “For too long the people of our state have been taken for granted. Too many decisions have been made behind closed doors by insiders.”
Bayh is 30-years-old. He’s a law school graduate and a former Marine.
He stood with his father, former Governor Evan Bayh, while declaring victory.
Bayh is the grandson of the late Senator Birch Bayh.
He became the first democrat to win statewide office since 2012.
