Damage assessment and clean-up are underway after violent storms blew through yesterday, causing widespread damage in the south suburbs, including damage to buildings in Hazel Crest and Lansing.
There’s a row of more than a dozen two-story multi-unit apartment buildings on 171st Street near Dixie Highway, just off I-80-294, in Hazel Crest, where there is heavy damage.
Roofs were ripped off and brick walls collapsed, exposing the inside of some apartments.

Andrea Pryor was home when suddenly the roof was gone.
She could feel the pressure, she said.
“My bedrooms in the front of the house, they’re destroyed, they’re gone,” she told WBBM.
“I Just can’t believe it, it’s just devastating. I’m just like, oh my goodness. I never thought this would happen, ever.”
Interior second floor walls were visible where windows and part of an exterior wall were gone. Bricks were piled on the ground.
There are similar stories elsewhere, including Lansing.

Large trees and power lines came down throughout the area and in parts of Northwest Indiana.
