1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 – that's the anniversary for people getting hitched on New Year's Eve this year

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Remembering your wedding anniversary could be as easy as 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 if you’re getting married on New Year’s Eve.

Wedding planner Carolyn McGee of CM Planning said wedding venues are normally available for New Year’s Eve if you book well enough in advance. Because of this year’s numerical sequence, she says venues went a little quicker than normal.

That’s because Dec. 31, 2023 – or, 12/31/23 -- is 1,2,3,1,2,3.

Typically, New Year’s Eve weddings are no more or no less popular than other dates, McGee said.

“I do think a lot of people -- with it being a holiday if it falls on a Monday or a Tuesday -- it kind of works out for them because people will likely have that next day off guaranteed.”

Most people who have New Year’s Eve weddings say their vows on the 31st. But some, McGee said, wait until just after the stroke of midnight to be one of the first marriages of the new year.

McGee is planning a wedding for a couple in Naperville on New Year’s Eve. Most venues that stage weddings on that day will throw in some extras like a midnight champagne toast and will let the party go on until one in the morning, she said.
