
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A person was critically injured and several other residents were displaced following an overnight fire at a South Side apartment building.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, crews responded to a two-story building at 38th and Kedzie in the 3 a.m. hour.
They encountered smoke and flames coming from the building.
The entire building needed to be evacuated. An adult was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, the CFD said.
A warming bus arrived at the scene for those that vacated. The Fire Department said 5 residents were displaced and are working with humanitarian services for temporary shelter.
Crews extinguished the fire in less than an hour.
Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
