CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - For a third straight day, the Chicago area is experiencing bone chilling cold weather.

This morning, temperatures dipped to 3 degrees at Midway, 0 at O’Hare, and as low as 8 below zero in Waukegan and 12 below zero in Rochelle.

Today’s high temperature (13) will struggle to eclipse the low-teens, AccuWeather says. Tonight, lows will vary, ranging from 4 below zero in some of the western suburbs to 7 near the Lakefront. The National Weather Service says the coldest areas will be near and west of the Fox River Valley.

The Arctic air pattern arrived on Sunday and has made itself right at home. Three consecutive days have produced below normal temperatures.

Relief, albeit brief, is on the way. After a frigid morning tomorrow, AccuWeather forecasts a warmup, with temperatures climbing to near 30 degrees by the afternoon. The more seasonable temperatures will only last through Thursday however, as the bitter cold returns Friday.

The good news: the frigid air this time only stick around for a day.

Saturday will be milder, AccuWeather says, with a forecasted high of 35.
