
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago police and a traffic stop suspect engaged in a gun fight on the West Side Monday night.
Chicago police said the incident started as a traffic stop on Polk Street near Sacramento Boulevard in the East Garfield Park neighborhood around 9:15 p.m.
Police spokesperson Tom Ahern said that as officers approached, the vehicle drove towards one officer, pinning him against his own squad car. Then, according to police, the person in the car started shooting at the officers, who returned fire hitting him.
The officers were taken to Stroger Hospital, one with a gunshot wound to a finger, the other with a right leg injury from being pinned. The wounded suspect was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious to critical condition.
Police said two guns were recovered.
