CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Artificial intelligence could soon be taking your order for a Big Mac and fries.

Chicago-based McDonald's is testing out what could be the future of drive-through ordering.

Ten McDonald's restaurants in the Chicago area are serving as test beds for automated drive-through ordering.

Instead of a person taking your order when you drive up, artificial intelligence software will listen to your order and then send it to the kitchen.

CEO Chris Kempczinski said right now, the technology is 85 percent accurate and can take 80 percent of orders.

He said only a fifth of orders need to be taken by a human at those locations.

It will take several years to implement nationwide. Kempczinski said it's quite a leap from 10 restaurants to 14,000 across the country.
