(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Firefighters responded to a fire on the South Side at 4:30 Sunday morning at a residence in the area of South Loomis and W 51st streets.
A 50-year-old woman reportedly sustained minor injuries. She was treated at the scene and released.
Ten people were displaced. Joy Squier, director of communications for the Illinois Red Cross, said volunteers have been sent out to help the three families.
The assistance included providing case workers to help those displaced get back on their feet.
“You know, the Red Cross around Chicagoland responds to about three to four of these fires each and every day and night. And it is a disaster for the families impacted. You lose everything and you're left standing at the curb wondering what's next, and that's why our volunteers go out and talk you through it,” Squier said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
