100 firefighters battle large South Side blaze

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Firefighters battled a blaze for over two hours Thursday morning in Chatham on the South Side.

Flames shot through the roof and “severe damage” was reported at the mixed-use, partially occupied building at 82nd and Cottage Grove Avenue, according to Chicago Fire Dept. spokesman Larry Merritt.

Crews were called at about 8:20 a.m., and there were no reported injuries, he said.

About 100 personnel and 40 fire engines and trucks were on scene, Merritt said.

The fire was extinguished by 10:40 a.m.
