CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A young girl was hospitalized after being shot Sunday afternoon in West Englewood.
Police said the 11-year-old girl was inside a home on the 2000 block of West 68th Place around 3:50 p.m., when she was shot in the head from outside the home.
A neighbor was reportedly upset that the girl and other family members walked through his yard to avoid a muddy area in their own yard.
Latreice Pierce is a neighbor and told CBS-2 she is close to the girl and her family.
“They are nice people and to see one of them to be shot in the head by a neighbor, the next door neighbor, is just sickening,” Pierce said.
Community activist Andrew Holmes said this was the second child shot inside a home in Chicago that weekend.
“Both these children should be in school tomorrow with a book, not in the hospital with a bullet,” Holmes said.
Police said they were questioning two people. A gun was recovered at the scene.
