12-year-old boy shot and killed in Englewood: CPD

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago police are looking for information about a shooting in Englewood Monday night that left a 12-year-old boy dead.

Police said officers found the boy in the street with a gunshot wound to the head after responding to a ShotSpotter alert. It was about 6:30 p.m. near Marquette and Lowe.

The Medical Examiner has identified the victim as Damien Green, who lived less than a mile away from where Chicago police found him.

Sixth ward Alderman William Hall spoke after the shooting.

"We should be outraged. All hands and hearts on deck, we're gathering the facts right now, but, as we go to bed tonight, the question becomes: We wake up tomorrow, when is another kid going to get shot before we finally figure out that kids matter?" Hall asked.

Deputy Chief Gilberto Calderon encouraged people to call the police department’s tip line.

“We have very few details at this point, but one thing we do want to share with you is we need the community to come out and help us,” Caledron said. “We really need as much information that anybody may have to call the hot tip line, because there is no doubt this is a tragic death that happened out here.”

The department is offering a $15,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and reminds the public that tips can be shared anonymously.
