Ground has officially been broken on a project that leaders say will help transform Chicago’s West Side.
“We are building with this community, not just near it.”
Elected officials, executives, and mascots, from the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks, even the bucket boys on hand here at the United Center to kick off the 1901 Project.
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.
“The 1901 Project will build new greenspace, safer and more walkable streets, family friendly amenities and year-round gathering spaces for residents and visitors.”

One the largest ever private investments on Chicago’s West Side, at 7 billion dollars, will also bring affordable housing, retail…and a brand-new music hall in construction phases over the next 14 years.
Terry Savarise is Executive Vice President & CEO of the United Center.
“We’re excited for what’s coming. For Chicago and its visitors, for the 3 million fans, and growing, who gather here year after year, for our city, county and state, but most importantly, we’re excited for our community and the neighbors who call the West Side home.”
