CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in the southwest suburbs are trying to track down a couple of armed robbers who attempted two carjackings Tuesday in broad daylight.

Police in Crestwood and Orland Park said the crimes happened within 10 minutes of each other.

The first was around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning in Crestwood at the Delta Sonic on 137th and Cicero. Two suspects approached a man, showed a gun, and demanded his car keys and wallet. The man backed away, pushed the panic button on his key, and the suspects grabbed his phone and drove away in the stolen car they arrived in.

A witness told police he observed the suspects flee the scene in a dark colored Chevy southbound on Cicero, however, the witness was unable to provide any license plate information.

According to Crestwood Police, investigators were able to review the video footage from the camera at Midlothian Turnpike and Cicero and were able to identify the vehicle. It was learned that the suspect's vehicle was stolen from Gary, Indiana.

Using a phone app, the victim's phone appeared to have been thrown from the vehicle. Officers were able to canvas the area and the victim's phone was recovered.

It was later learned that the same suspects had committed a similar armed robbery in Orland Park.

Minutes later, outside a cleaners in the 8100 block of West 143rd Street, Orland Park police said those same suspects held up a man who had just come out of the business. They took cash and the man's phone, but were unable to start his car, so again, they took off in the car that was reported stolen from Gary.

It is believed that the suspects are responsible for numerous other recent armed robberies in the southwest suburbs.

The first suspect is described as a male black in his 20s, approximately 5'8", average build, shoulder length dreadlocks, goatee-style facial hair. The second suspect is described as a male black in his 20s, 6'0", slim build, wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt.
