2 killed in Kenosha senior apartment complex fire

KENOSHA, Wisc. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There was a deadly fire Monday night in a senior citizen apartment complex in Kenosha.

The fire reported around 9:30 p.m. Monday night was in a 16-unit, two-story building in a 224 unit complex known as Saxony Manor in Kenosha. It’s for people income eligible senior citizens, aged 62-years old and older.

According to Battalion Chief Kenneth Schroeder, two people were killed - a man and a woman.

Five other residents and a police officer were injured. Two of the residents who were hospitalized have life-threatening injuries, while the remaining three are in stable condition. The police officer is believed to have suffered from smoke inhalation and is expected to be okay. He was injured trying to get residents out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
