CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The effort to get educators and school staff members vaccinated for the coronavirus in the northern suburbs ramps up Friday.
On Wednesday, the first of two vaccine sites being used to provide COVID vaccine doses to educators and school staff members in Lake County, opened at Round Lake High School. According to the Lake County Health Department 450 vaccines administered Wednesday.
On Friday, the second site opened at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire.
The Lake County Health Department said there are about 20,000 people who teach and provide support for schools in the county, and that provided enough vaccine is available, all of them could be vaccinated over the next 10 weeks.
Both schools will be used to immunize only people who work in schools in Lake County. They're not open to the general public. Potentially as many as 2,000 shots on a given day can be administered at each location, the Lake County Health Department said.
Vaccinations are by appointment only and require registration on Lake County's AllVax portal. Appointments are set by when people signed up and not on a school-by-school or district-by-district basis.
