(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Police Department shared crime statistics for June, along with a comparison of previous years.
There were 291 shootings across the city in June, that's about 30 more than last year but down at least twice that much compared to June of 2021 when there were 360.
The number of victims also increased with each incident, leaving a victim tally of 358 compared to a total of 328 June of last year. During June of 2021, there were 483 shooting victims.
Year over year, Chicago has seen less gun violence and fewer murders since 2021, when between January and June of that year there were 345 murders. This year during the same time period there were 271. Compared to last year, there were 69 fewer shootings and 44 fewer shooting victims.
Additionally, 67 people were killed in Chicago during the month of June this year, which is slightly fewer than June of last year and significantly lower than in June of 2021 when 85 people were killed in the city.
