(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Another two dozen women have filed lawsuits against former gynecologist Dr. Fabio Ortega, claiming he sexually assaulted them during exams.
The 26 additional plaintiffs bring the total number of women suing Ortega, Swedish Hospital or Endeavor, which used to be NorthShore University Health System, to 60.
The Chicago Tribune reports most of the new lawsuits are from women who say they saw the OBGYN in 2017 and Endeavor never told them he was under criminal investigation at the time.
One woman claims Ortega licked the inside of her leg during an exam. Another woman said the that he allegedly told her during her exam, “If I was your husband, I would have sex with you every day.”
Lawyers representing the victims said earlier this month that hundreds of women were assaulted during examinations by Ortega over the course of many years.
Only two of the women’s allegations were criminally prosecuted. Ortega pleaded guilty and is serving a one-year sentence.
A Cook County judge denied claims from defense attorneys that two allegations were too old to litigate.
