
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A massive warehouse fire has erupted on the Southwest Side.
Chicago fire crews are on the scene at 41st and Halsted, battling a three-alarm fire at a food processing facility.
Firefighters are in a defensive position and have set up three tower ladders and multiple master stream water lines in order to fight the blaze. The CFD said the fire spanned multiple buildings. Heavy, billowing smoke could be seen for several miles.
No injuries were reported.
Halsted is blocked between 43rd and Pershing as crews attend to the fire, according to WBBM traffic reporter Beau Duran.
This Back of the Yards food processing facility is just a few blocks from the historic Union Stockyards Gate, the entrance to the old Union Stockyards.
Earlier this week, a Chicago firefighter was killed while battling a fire a Lincoln Park. Firefighter/EMT Andrew Price died after falling through a light shaft. He became the fourth Chicago firefighter killed in the line of duty this year.
