CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A statue in Lincoln Park was hit by a stolen vehicle overnight that was speeding away from an attempted police stop.

Police said three males tried to run away after the stolen vehicle they were in jumped a curb and hit the statue of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, it's at Diversey and Cannon Drive. Police said they caught the three and put them under arrest. Charges are pending.


Police said one weapon was recovered. According to the Chicago Park District, the statue was installed in 1913. It's 18-feet tall and weighs 80 tons. It's been repaired and conserved several times, most notably 71 years ago after lightning hit the figure's left foot.
