CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Three Chicago police officers were injured in two separate crashes on the Far South Side Sunday night.

They happened minutes apart and about a mile and a half from each other.

Chicago police said two squad cars with their lights and sirens on were hit in intersections in Roseland at around 7:30 p.m.

The first happened near 107th and Normal, where the department said two officers were responding to a call of shots fired. They collided with a black SUV.

Police said a 32-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman ran off but were caught.

They refused medical treatment. The officers were taken to the hospital in good condition, so was another, who was in a crash near 115th and State.

An 88-year-old man driving a dark SUV and his 32-year-old passenger were also hospitalized in good condition.

Police expect charges in the first case.
