CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police say three people were killed and one person was critically injured Monday night while fleeing police and being involved in a crash in west suburban Berkeley.
Berkley police said it began with an attempted police stop late Monday night in an alley in the 5000 block of St. Charles Road. A police officer noticed a vehicle parked in an alley with its lights off and did not have visible license plates.
The officer attempted to conduct "an investigatory stop on the vehicle" when the car quickly drove away, police said.
Berkeley officials then said the driver of the vehicle then ran a stop sign at the intersection of Bohlander and Taft avenues, about a mile away, and crashed into a semi.
Berkley police said three people were killed in the crash and one person was very critically injured.
Police have not released any further information about the identities of the people killed and injured in the crash.
The semi-truck driver was not injured.
