GLENVIEW, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Four people including a 15-year-old boy were charged in connection with the murders of two brothers near Glenview earlier this year, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.
On August 19 at approximately 9:06 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired in the 14000 block of Michael Todd Terrace. Upon arrival, officers found Jose Guzman-Ezquivel, 16 and Carlos Guzman-Ezquivel, 19. Both had multiple gunshot wounds.
Jose was pronounced dead at the scene. Carlos was transported to a local area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. There was a third victim, a 16-year-old male, who suffered a graze wound to his back.
After conducting an investigation lasting months, Sheriff’s Police detectives learned Jose Guzman-Ezquivel and Carlos Miranda, 22, of Prospect Heights, were involved in a physical altercation in July.
Following the fight, the 15-year-old suspect obtained a picture of Jose Guzman-Ezquivel in order to identify him and seek revenge for the fight.
Detectives used recovered cellphone data, surveillance footage, and other digital evidence to identify the shooters and two additional individuals involved, Griselda Martinez, 42 of Itasca and Sergio Patino-Jaime, 19 of Wheeling.
Martinez acted as a lookout during the attack, while Patino-Jaime helped dispose of the vehicle used to travel to and from the shooting, police said.
All four suspects were charged with two counts each of first-degree murder and one count each of attempted first-degree murder.
The 15-year-old suspect appeared in Cook County Juvenile Court Thursday where a judge ordered him to be detained at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center.
