CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Four people have been hospitalized following a two-alarm fire at a South Side apartment building.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, the crews responded at around 7:30 a.m. to a high-rise at 35th and Cottage Grove. There, they saw smoke coming from the seventh floor. Additional ambulances had to be called to the scene, with firefighters rescuing several people from the building.
Several residents were evaluated for smoke inhalation, the CFD noted.
Crews put out the fire at the Lake Grove Village Apartments in less than an hour. Four people were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It’s unclear what sparked the fire.
