AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Rainbow flags, balloons and thousands of spectators filled the streets of west suburban Aurora for the 4th annual Pride Parade.

Describing it as “one for the books,” the city estimates more than 75 groups marched through downtown Aurora including more than 1,000 participants.

In an effort to showcase the LGBTQ+ community, this year’s grand marshal was Aurora-native and entertainer Keri Traid.

The Pride Parade was the first of its kind since Aurora's LGBTQ advisory board was established last August.

Organizers took to social media after the event, thanking all its volunteers for making the day a success.

Other events over the weekend included the 2nd annual Pride Flag raising ceremony at One Aurora Plaza.
