5 hospitalized including 3 police officers after back-to-back crashes on Dan Ryan

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Five people were taken to hospitals overnight after back-to-back crashes on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Officials tell WBBM that three law enforcement officers were among five people injured in crashes that happened outbound on the Dan Ryan at 95th Street overnight. State police said the crashes happened around 2:11 a.m.

A trooper said there were two crashes. A state trooper was injured in a three-vehicle crash and two Chicago police officers were injured in the secondary crash. A second state police squad was also involved in the second crash, but that trooper was not injured.

The Chicago Fire Department said the two CPD officers and a state trooper were taken in critical condition to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. Two other people were taken in fair condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Cause of the crashes has not yet been made public.
