5-year-old girl killed in Near West Side shooting, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 5-year-old girl was shot and killed in a shooting that took place on Chicago’s Near West Side early Sunday morning, according to Chicago police.

Police said it happened near the intersection of West Lake Street and North Campbell Avenue at about 3:30 a.m. A group of people were reportedly standing outside when shots were fired.

The girl, who was in a parked car, was struck by gunfire in her abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

A 24-year-old man was also shot. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, as well, and was last reported in good condition.

No one is in custody.

Chicago police said Area Five detectives are currently investigating the shooting.
